The horses and chariots galloped in the distance
as the army trooped on..
The rise of dust in the air echoed the battlefied cry
of the soldiers plunging past enemy lines.
The Lord was with Israel, and he knew it.
For the Ark was with them, he couldn’t fail.
He proudly marched on forward, clad in his full armour
Proud that he had defended God before the King.
His loyalty, to the God of David.
He knew God was with him..
This would be an easy win.
Bodies slain all around him
Grunts and swords clanging, his music all day
The enemies were falling, onward he fought.
Until his position was changed.
but
higher trial equalled advancement.
If Joab put him here, in the heat,
Then promotion was in the pipeline
It must have been in the letter.
King David was awfully kind.
He missed Bathsheba, proud of her unusual beauty
He would go back to her…after the Lord granted them victory.
Slaying Ammonite after Ammonite, praising Jehovah
He was proud to serve.
A privilege to be in the army
This was his purpose, calling
God be praised.
And so God was….as the icy blade of the enemy
struck him, cutting short his assignment
When his horse leapt frantically
he fell to his knees.
Eyes bloodshot, tears and fears.
He looked around and saw no one
No Joab, no brother to attend to his need
Deserted; blood gushing out of his frame
King of Kings, Lord of Lords!!
The Ark was still with them
And victory was HIS..
…but maybe, not his..
maybe, not today.
It got cold. So cold
Alone and Cold
Bathsheba he missed…..
The dust couldn’t develop enough heat
So this was assigned.
But where was his army??
Where was his God??
Where was his wife??
Where was his King
A soldier in the Lord
his life was laid
Uriah meets death,
murder? .. or ordained.
