Sing unto the Lord.
Scripture Reading
Psalm 9:11
‘Sing praises to the Lord, who dwells in Zion! Declare His deeds among the people!’
Praise and worship for many, has been limited in our minds to a short 15 minutes activity that happens when we gather in church. And many others believe worship is only about singing slow songs that speak of the Lord. While this is true, it is not limited to 15 minutes or must only be done in church.
The Psalms is a book that is filled with praises for the Lord. Praising and adoring Him for who He is and for what He has done; and one activity that is often repeated is singing. We are encouraged throughout the Psalms to sing to the Lord and of the Lord. This makes me believe that singing is a weapon. It is a weapon of praise God expects us to use very often. When we sing unto the Lord, we are affirming to ourselves who He is. We remind ourselves of His constant mercy and love. Singing is one of the ways we can show God that we are His servants, who love to Praise Him simply because He deserves it. Beloved, we must remember that God didn’t instruct only the skillful singers to sing unto His name. It is not an activity reserved only for praise and worship leaders or the choir. Just like the birds chirp to praise the Lord, as believers, we are encouraged to lift up our voices in songs as well to God. Singing considers the heart posture more than the skill, and God is always ready to inhabit the praises of His people.
Singing the songs of the Lord has a way of uplifting us from the spirit of doom, worry, anxiety and despair and we must learn to sing, whether we feel like it or not. Singing unto the Lord has the power to inject into us, the spring we need to face difficult situations of sorrow, grief or even unrest. The bible speaks of David playing for King Saul whenever the tormenting spirit to come upon him. This by inference, means music has a supernatural ability to lift one’s soul from torment. This is exemplified in the secular world, where certain kinds of music can influence the moods and emotions of listeners. Much in the same way, when we lift up songs unto God, He provides us with His comfort, joy, assurance of His presence and His rest.
Beloved, let us be encouraged to sing unto the Lord. In the morning, throughout the day and in the evening. For there is great power and strength in singing. There is power in Praise.
Memory Verse: Psalm 5:3
My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord; In the morning I will direct it to YOU, And I will look up.
