Middle of the red sea.
Scripture reading
Exodus 14:10-11; 14-16
10 ‘And when Pharoah drew near, the children of Israel lifted their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians marched after them. So they were very afraid., and the children of Israel cried out to the Lord. Then they said t Moses, “because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you so dealt with us, to bring us up out of Egypt? Is this not the word that we told you in Egypt, saying “let us alone that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than that we should die in the wilderness”.
14 “The lord will fight for you and you shall hold your peace. ‘And the Lord said to Moses, “Why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward. But lift up your rod and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it.”
Beloved, let us go back down memory lane, to the story of the great redemption of the Israelites. Forget Moses for a minute, and picture yourself as an Israelite patriarch of your family. That finally the day of deliverance has happened, and you and your family are actually out of Egypt. You, for the most part of your life, had grown accustomed to working in the field, slaving away your energy for your masters. Somehow, your mind had grown accustomed to the concept of slavery. You were probably born a slave and so this is how you know best to live your life. Then along comes this man Moses, with the divine ability to challenge and overcome the forces of your masters. With great determination and zeal, along with the power of YAHWEH, the deliverance finally happens and you are on your way to freedom. Pharoah is now a thing of the past, much like your sins, shackles and chains. Forward, you follow Moses, and His God. You believe in the redemptive power of this God because He has demonstrated it. You have finally been set free!
But not for long, because very quickly you find yourself in a fix, when tested. Caught up between the raging Egyptians (your past) and a tumultuous red sea with no possibility of surmounting.
Many of us have found ourselves in such places; very difficult situations where three options are presented; to go back to our old ways, stand still in fear and complaints until our enemies overcome us, or be caught up in the red sea. Most of us choose the former because it is easier, but the real secret is in communion. The God who delivered you from Egypt, is the same God who has the power to split the Red Sea. But for lack of knowledge, (knowledge gained by diligently seeking to know this God, by His Word that will build your faith), we often perish in front of the red seas of our lives.
Even worse than going back to our old ways, is standing still and complaining. Complaining was not going to change Pharoah’s mind about pursuing them, neither did it have the power to make a way. All it did, was waste time, and cause them to stand still. Looking inward to our strength by complaining, reveals our inadequacy to surmount our biggest challenges. And our inability to find human ways to overcome them, further increases our complaints until we waste so much time in idleness.
Instead, after deliverance, we must seek to know who God is, to discover the content of the Character, His power and His Might. In the middle of the Red sea, we must yearn to hear God’s instructions, that we may build our faith over time to believe Him when He asks us to lift our rods. He is the God who can part the Red Seas, and likewise can do the impossible in your life.
Beloved, before we are confronted with insurmountable challenges, let us endeavor to diligently seek to know God our deliverer. For He delivered us unto good works, that our light may so shine before men and glorify God.
