Agents of God.
Scripture Reading
Psalm 8:1-2
‘O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth, Who have set Your glory above the heavens! Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants, You have ordained strength, because of Your enemies, that You may silence the enemy and the avenger.”
During one of our bible studies, as we were discussing the place of ‘dangerous Christian prayers’ for our enemies, one of our Pastors made a profound statement which stuck with me. He said often times, our human enemies are merely agents for the real enemy, which is the Devil and his spiritual entities. Therefore, if we focus on the human agents, we miss the point.
The Psalmist said “out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants, You have ordained strength’ and the simple conclusion I drew from this scripture is that the strength is not in the vessel, but the One who owns access to the vessel. Babies and nursing infants are considered very weak on the ladder of human strength because of their vulnerability and helplessness. They rely on an outside source to function properly. If you are someone like me who likes to be perfect, you often will find yourself greatly discouraged when you are simply unable to meet the standard God has set for believers. Life and its struggles can weigh you down to the point of vulnerability, just like babies and nursing infants. But the Psalmists makes me understand that, regardless of the weakness of the vessel, when God is able to have access and occupies the vessel, strength will be expressed.
Consequently, if we give access to the devil through sin, and the lusts of the flesh, he can have access and use us to fulfill his plans of destruction to our own lives and that of others. It doesn’t matter what capacity or capabilities you have; it matters who you grant access to. How might we grant access, one may ask? The environment we cultivate around us, the things we watch and listen to and the counsel we seek, all play their roles in enabling either God or the devil to have access to us.
As believers, we must make it a point to continually seek to fellowship with like-minded believers, invite and maintain the Presence of God with us throughout the day through spiritual songs and Godly conversations, and meditate on His word day and night.
Beloved, when God has access to our weak vessels, supernatural strength and exploits will be our testimony. We must be deliberate in our minds to be used as agents for God, being led by the Holy Spirit to preach the Gospel with our lives and giftings. At the end of every day, before retiring to bed, assess your day and ask yourself. Who did I give access to today?
And daily, may we be encouraged to avail ourselves to be used as agents to bring God’s purpose. Amen.
