Saved to save

Scripture reading.

Acts 16:29-33

Then he called for a light, ran in, and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?  So, they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized.  Now when he had brought them into his house, he set food before them; and he rejoiced, having believed in God with all his household.

Beloved, Jesus saves! He saves us so that through us, others can also be saved. The scripture above talks of the miraculous deliverance story of Paul and Silas from prison. With a great earthquake that shook the foundations of the prison, God broke the chains off Paul, Silas and all the prisoners. The prison guard was about to kill himself for fear of harm, but instead, a beautiful transformation happened. He believed in Jesus and in turn, all his household heard the Word of God and were baptized.

Brethren, our salvation is not only for us. Our liberation is not only for us. God has our family, our loved ones and those in our communities in mind. God took one man, our father Abraham on a journey, but He had all of us in mind. The bible says in Isaiah 49:6 ‘It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant. To raise up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the preserved ones of Israel; I will also give You as a light to the Gentiles, That You should be My salvation to the ends of the earth.’  God had planned a salvation strategy from the beginning for all mankind through the offer of pardon through the blood of His Beloved Son.

Beloved, we are saved so we can become a light to others, preaching and teaching the Good News through our evangelism, and living the Christ-like life in this world. it is important for us to strive to stay on the narrow path, to keep fellowship with The Holy Spirit and obey the Word of God, as He helps us to navigate through our lives. We are not saved in isolation. In your home, workplace, school, community, nation and church, you have a responsibility to be used by God to bring salvation to others. We must teach our family, friends, strangers, community about the Good News and the salvation Jesus brings. Brethren, just like the prison guard, God has our families and communities in mind and we must avail ourselves to be used to bring the Good News to them. We do this by prayer, evangelism, offering love, and modelling the Christ-like life in our daily lives.

Beloved, let us be determined and willing to play our part, so that like Joshua, we will be able to have the conviction to say ‘choose for yourselves today whom you will serve; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” (Joshua 24:15)

Memory verse

Joshua 24:14-15

“Now fear the Lord and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. 15 But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord
