Hope against Hope
Scripture reading
Romans 4:17-21
… (as it is written, ‘I have made you a father of many nations”) in the presence of Him whom he believed— God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did; who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, “so shall your descendants be.” And being not weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb. He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God., and being fully convinced that what He had promised, He was also was able to perform.
Precious one, God is an expert in making what seems impossible Possible! God can! God is capable of doing the unthinkable, far beyond our expectations and limitations.
This walk of faith is such that at every point in a believer’s life, God will have him believing and trusting Him for something. It may be for a child like our father Abraham, for daily provision, protection, a certain blessing, or the salvation of a loved one. We all, like Abraham, will inevitably come to the point of hope against hope. Where our human limitations start, our faith and hope in God’s capabilities will keep us going. Abraham’s situation was humanly impossible for it is said that Sarah’s womb was dead. But his faith was in The God who calls those things which do not exist as though they did. Beloved, God is not man, God cannot fail, and if He has promised, He is able to perform.
In those times where we seem to be hoping against hope, we must know that our faith in God will be rewarded because He will come through! We have to be strengthened in our faith and keep on being fervent and persistent in prayer and thanksgiving, fully convinced that what He has promised, He is able to perform.
While we wait in faith, while we hope against hope in the situations that look impossible, we must search for and stand on scriptures that remind us of God’s faithfulness. If He has done it before, then He will do it again. For that child, that promotion, that resurrection, that healing, that marriage, that restoration, that deliverance, that victory, that breakthrough, that appointment, that blessing, that elevation, we must be strong in faith that He is the God who can! And He will!.
We must not give up because we seem to be hoping against hope, or because the situation seems dead. We must not consider our human limitations, but thrust ourselves wholly on God, and have faith that He who gives life to the dead, He is able to perform what He has promised. He is a mighty God. An expert in impossibilities. He will definitely and certainly come through. It is well with us because God is with us and God is for us! Shalom.
