I choose to forgive
Scripture Readings
Colossians
“bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.”
Matthew
““For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.”
Beloved, our Father commands us to forgive those who offend us and we must do everything we can to forgive and let go of any offences, bitterness and grudges in our hearts.
As long as we interact with one other, it is inevitable that we will be hurt in one way or another, and forgiveness is thus a skill to master, if you want to go far with God and with people.
We must choose to forgive when we are offended and make room for the inevitable errors of those around us.
Beloved, no man can sin against you in the magnitude that you have sinned against God, and yet God chooses to forgive you. By forgiving us, He has set the precedent, showing us that the same way He is able to forgive us despite how sinful we are; we also have the capacity to forgive others.
Beloved, it is futile to raise your hands in worship to God, and yet hold His child hostage in your heart. Yes, the offence was grave; yes, the offender is not remorseful; yes, the hurt was very deep; yes, they may not even have apologized but beloved, we must still choose to forgive because God says so. The same way we believe God’s word of blessings, we must place utmost priority on His commands too. And simply because He commands us to forgive, we must choose to forgive.
Forgiveness is a choice. The choice to let go of your valid reasons for holding on to the hurts, to the offences, to the grudges. Literally, to forgive is to give it up; give the hurt up. Let it go, release your right to be hurt.
As hard as it can be sometimes, forgiveness is a necessary part of this walk. It is a choice we must make to prevent bitterness from taking over our hearts.
Choose to forgive today, there’s grace to let go of every offence. Beloved, choose to forgive today, simply because God says so. Shalom!
