Okay, so in a bid to make you feel like this is home, and I’m super-relatable, here’s a brief insight into my love life.
I’ve had relationship experience of somesort. Most of them leaving me burned out. Tired. Numb. But I guess, where Icome from, that’s pretty much expected when you have a sweet heart. Literally.I’m the girl who is a hopeless romantic with a creative mind and highstandards. #helpmeJesus. Lol
I have tried the love thing. I ‘loved’ and ‘loved’ till I got tired of trying the‘love’ thing. That is, until I came across a book that changed my perspective. Her Lover, Her Lord. Catchy title probably rings a bell if you are a fan of The Potter’s House. Bishop T.D Jakes,God bless your ministry. It has helped me many a times. I like the title and I loved reading the book more; “The Lady, her Lover and her Lord”. You should totally read it if you haven’t. seriously, pause this read and get the book.Lol.
So here I am, all burned out and anti-relationships, with all this knowledge and I decided, why not write about it!!!
Letters to July is a love series about a true story. Well…maybe not entirely true. I don’t know. Take a look and decide on your own if it’s a painful experience a certain young woman went through or not. I’ll leave it to your discretion.
Letters to JULY
She stopped midway in her sentence. The cologne had hit her. He was around, she was sure of it. Unconsciously, she turned left and right trying to catch a glimpse of him. And surely enough her gut was right. The woman on his arm had a smile so beautiful it sent a jabbing pain to Ella’s heart. That woman was ‘the One’. The unknown caller he’d muted countless times, the one whose picture was perfect enough for all his friends to see…
Ella’s acting skills came to play as she gathered herself quickly; continuing her chatter with her friends. Luckily, they hadn’t caught on. Whew! She didn’t need their judgment now. Oh but how it hurt, seeing them together. He was holding her hand in one hand, and her bags in the other, totally lost whatever conversation they were engaged in. From the look of things, he had taken her shopping and Ella’s self-esteem pretty much tumbled after that sight. He hadn’t seen her and Ella was grateful. She didn’t need a reminder of how low she had stooped to accommodate his lies.
Ella propped herself up to listen to Ama whilst Jennifer was excitedly blabbering about the names of her unborn twins. Ella suggested Elle and Esse and her friends immediately loved it. They teased her about the eccentric nature she carried that seemed to draw people to her. People like Jay. Ella smiled, unable to stop her mind from reminiscing; she went back to how they met.
They met in a camp of people looking for a meaning to life. He caught her eye. He was really an ordinary man but he had a subtle superpower capturing her thoughts without so much as lifting a hand.it was to hold her thoughts. Not once did he look at her but she knew they had met before…previously. In the place for soul mates. ‘Okay okay, calm down Ma’, she told herself. ‘Reel yourself back in’, this is an ordinary crush and there were many ways to handle it… She could handle this. Easily.
Ella laughed at her own naivety, but not for long as the high-pitched sound of Ama awakened her. As usual, Ama had gathered “intel” about what was going on social media, this time it was a guy who had been caught cheating.
Ella tuned their voices out and zoned back into her hurt. How disappointed will her friends be if they knew she had also been the side woman before?
Her emotions took a downturn after those thoughts and she decided to leave lest they broke down in tears. Quickly, she came up with an excuse and took her leave. Hopping into the nearest taxi she could find, Ella took a deep breath, let out a sigh and took a pen and pad. ‘These emotions had to be given a voice. ..
‘It all began……. she wrote….
